Children with severe anxiety and/or the inability to relax are candidates for general anesthesia if the parents desire. General anesthesia provides a way of effectively completing dental care while a child is unconscious. Usually, the children treated with general anesthesia are young or have compromised health and helping them control their anxiety is not possible using other methods.

Dr. Launspach is trained to treat patients in the operating room of the hospital or surgicenter while a physician anesthesiologist provides the general anesthesia. Due to current legislation (see Bill AB2003 below), your medical insurance is required by law to cover the anesthesiologist and the hospital or surgicenter cost at your contracted benefit level if your child is under age 7 or handicapped.
